Did you know Richie Valens was only 17 when he died? :(

Postby Peter_From_Moose_Jaw on Thu Dec 07, 2006 11:15 pm

I was listening to "Come On, Let's Go!" today, (I got into Richie Valens and the Big Bopper after I went to a Buddy Holly/Valens/Bopper tribute show and met the Big Bopper's son. I went for the Buddy Holly, but came home with two new artists to start listening to! :D )

Anyways, I noticed that I never knew how old they all were on Feb. 3, 1959 (the day of the plane crash that killed the three of them  ), so I Wikipedia'd it, and found out that Valens was only 17. That's not even how old I am yet, but man, I suddenly felt so terrible. He was incredibly young, I couldn't believe it!

Peace, Love,
-Peter

Not to downplay the tragedy of Big Bopper and Buddy Holly's deaths but the fact that Ritchie was so young and right on the cusp of his successful life in music made his death a little more tragic. His relationship with his half-brother was coming full circle.

He was an amazing artist. It would've been a treat to see what he'd be doing later in his career.

Yep, he was great. Pete, if you want to get more information about him, rent the movie La Bamba, it's a pretty decent movie, it's old, I saw it about 20 years ago, but it's good.

Personally, I still find the greatest loss of talent, as it were, to be Buddy Holly. I mean, he had hit after hit, and I've loved him since I was a kid.

The Big Bopper had what, Chantilly Lace? Richie Valens had La Bamba, Oh Donna, and Come On, Lets Go?

Well, of course there are more than that, but those are the first that come to my mind, anyways. The reason I'm so extra sad about Richie was because he was so young. That's absolutely terrible!
