I went to Hamilton Island and had the holiday of a life time, it was such a beautiful place, the colour of the blue water is beyond words, it is the most vivid azure blue I've ever seen, I've not even seen it captured in a photograph.

The Whitsundays are Australia's indulgence, if you need to get away, want to be pampered and relax, that's where you go (if you can afford it) I love sounding like a travel brochure  .

I thought It would be intruding when I was there, and didn't have the nerve to ask where George's house was, It was before I joined the board you see, but it made me feel like I had a secret, just knowing that somewhere there, was his home.

It has become very developed over the years, I mean, who wouldn't want a slice of paradise? I think when George built his place, it had not really been discovered by the rest of us yet :) . It is part of the Great Barrier Reef, with amazing coloured fish and coral, and white sandy beaches,

Though when we first arrived, it was low tide, and just pebbles, it wasn't till the morning when the tide came in that it revealed its beauty.

Man we had an awsome holiday, I could write about it for hours...

Well if you're going to write about it dear --do send me a note because I'd love to hear about this adventure. Something tells that it's a tale that would make me smile.

Yes it was lovely :D . I keep pictures of it in my mind for dull moments 8) I used to not be able to sleep, so I would go walking all arond the place in the middle of the night while everyone else was sleeping, and go for swims in the pools and walk through the lush gardens, and spy in the shop windows...shhhhh.

It sounds absolutely lovely. A perfect place for peace and quiet (and anonymity that George so sought after)

I also went to Hamilton Island in the 90's. At the time there was a tiny zoo on the island and you took a tram ride . On the ride the tour guy did point out George's house down the hill. They also had an areal view of the island at the tiny airport . You could see the house on that map. On the subject of selling the house, I wonder if because it became part of a tourist point, that it lost its secludidness (a word I just made up). We did see a lot of wild life while staying there. A big monitor lizard was walking down the beach area. There were wallabies hopping all around. Cockatiels flocked to our porch when my son started eating some chips. It was beautiful.

The cockatoos were so funny , the same thing happened when Wayland came out with a packet of chips, (the most expensive packet of chips I ever brought. ) He wouldn't share any with us (he was 2 or 3) but he didn't mind sharing with the flock of cockies that descended on him, probably about 20 of them, all around him, and on him, gobbling up the chips as fast as he could feed them to them   . What a ruckus they made! Cockies screech very loudly. There was a notice on the table saying 'please don't feed the birds' but the first thing Wayland had done when we arrived was throw it over the balcony! So there was that rule out the window  !

I remember spending a night in Undarra years ago and waking up in the morning to flocks of black cockatoos. I've called them Australian roosters ever since!

I love OZ and can't wait to go back!

Black Cockatoos are some of the most exciting birds to see, they only come rarely. There are two sorts, one have yellow on their heads, and some have red. A flock came by here once, I remember, they landed in the tall trees down at the creek, stayed for a little while, then flew on. They came more often at the last place we lived at, Bilpin in the Blue Mountains. They are very loud, you can certainly hear them approaching, and they come in flocks of 20 or 30. But all cockies are amusing, not scary.

We call the white ones 'clowns of the bush', they do things like hanging upside down in the rain taking a bath  , and bob up and down with their yellow feathered hats. They also chomp off the corn stalks ,and eat tomatoes  , but no matter how hard I have tried to dislike them, I just can't, they are so big and beautiful and funny. What I hate though, is seeing them in little cages  , people sometimes have them as pets, they can learn to talk very well, and have a particular nack for swearing  .

The zoo is still there at Hamilton Island, you can have breakfast there :) .

my uncle has a white one with yellow feathers on its head. it would chase at your feet and such. then he gave it to my other uncle. It screeches SO loud >_O it says Rock'n'roll and then will start swinging with its headfeathers up and bobbing and such.

my cousin tried to teach it to say bad words XD it also says Im the baby. but it rather loves to say rock'n'roll and start swinging.

so theres tons of them down under? it must be LOUD

The ones I saw were black/red. They are just amazing creatures. Then there was the kamakazi kookabura that dove for the top of my head during my "billy tea"! That was the second morning alarm!
