George on Bobfest

Postby misfittoy on Thu Jul 29, 2010 1:45 pm

Remember in the early 90s when there was this big concert celebrating the music of Bob Dylan? Different big names of rock came out and each did a cover version of a Bob song. I think it was the anniversary of Bob being with his record label or something, but many dubbed it 'Bobfest'.
George did a song. I forget which one but I do remember he wore a great purple suit.
Funny is while he sang, there was a woman dancing in the front row.
It took a long time before I realized she was his wife Olivia. Looked like she had a good time too.

Anybody else remember that concert?

It was a great show! George did "If Not For You" and "Absolutely Sweet Marie". I was disappointed that his stellar version of "If Not For You" was not included on the album and video of the show.
The Bhagavad Gita says, "There has never been a time when you and I have not existed, nor will there be a time when we will cease to exist."

That's George's 'If Not For You'.

Love George's bluesy tone on his vocal.
Thanks for all you taught me, Chris.

I always wondered why 'If Not For You' was left off, since there are good recordings available on bootlegs. I would swap one of the Neil Young songs for the second Harrisong! I thought it was a bit (little little bit) dissapointing that George only played acoustic guitar, I would have loved to see him doing the slide guitar on his contributions. Does anyone know why he chose not to?
